Darren Sproles’ new deal includes $1M in guarantees

After the Philadelphia Eagles eschewed running backs in the NFL draft, then re-signed Darren Sproles to a new deal, the assumption was the 34-year-old would have a notable role in the offense.

Sproles’ new contract reflects that expectation.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported the Eagles gave Sproles a $400,000 signing bonus on his $1.415 million contract, with $1 million in total guarantees. The deal is worth a max of $1.433 million with reachable incentives.

Returning for his 14th NFL season, Sproles should share the pass-catching role along with Corey Clement behind starter Jay Ajayi. Clement showed he can become a special receiving threat out of the backfield. Yet few backs strike fear into defenses like Sproles catching the ball on third down with open grass ahead. Philly will use that threat to its advantage in 2018.

The GM said likewise last month, noting that he did not expect Thomas to hold out this season.

After the draft trade dalliance, Schneider was forced to reiterate his belief that Thomas will remain part of a restructured Seattle squad. To achieve that goal Schneider might need to show Thomas the money. The veteran is set to enter the final year of his contract, earning $8.5 million, and wants a long-term deal. Only after a new contract is signed will the trade talks totally die, and Schneider can stop answering the same rounds of questions.

President Trump on Friday undermined the debut of one of his new lawyers, Rudolph W. Giuliani, telling reporters that the former New York mayor, who conducted a media blitz on Trump’s behalf this week, is still learning the subject matter.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump did not specify his concerns, but his comments come in the wake of Giuliani’s revelation that Trump reimbursed a $130,000 payment that his longtime lawyer Michael Cohen made to porn star Stormy Daniels to maintain her silence a month before the 2016 election.canucks_009
